Rainbow Moonstone belongs to the plagioclase feldspar group. Its composition primarily consists of sodium and calcium aluminium silicates. The internal structure is composed of thin, alternating layers of albite and anorthite feldspars, which interfere with light in a way that produces the stone’s signature iridescent glow, a unique optical phenomenon known as adularescence. This effect creates a captivating, shimmering play of colours, typically exhibiting a blue sheen but sometimes showcasing a spectrum of colours. Geologically, it forms in igneous and metamorphic rocks, often found in association with other feldspar minerals.
